A comparison can be drawn between Internet publishing and traditional paper based publications. A publication on the Internet can consist of one page similar to an A4 Flyer or it can consist of a number of pages similar to a book or brochure.

Like a paper-based publication, the content needs to be created. Drawings and images need to be created by scanning or drawing, text needs to be input from files or keyed in, backgrounds and layouts need to be agreed and the final page(s) output in a format suitable for the internet.

Unlike traditional print publishing, the electronic nature of the internet allows additional features to be built into your Internet pages such as:

  • Interactive links to sections within the pages.
  • Interactive links to other pages on the Internet.
  • Interactive electronic forms that can capture user data and forward that data on by E-Mail, (similar to a reply paid card within a magazine or a brochure).
  • Links and searches on databases.
  • Animated images.
  • Sound files.
  • Video files.

The costs incurred in the design of the Internet pages (Internet Site) are generally a one off cost. The actual cost will be determined by the complexity of the site.

1) Simple Page

The price quoted in 4.1 is for the creation of what could be described as a “calling card” page similar to the example shown below.

2) Style 1

The price quoted is for the creation of 4 pages including a front (home) page, an index and hypertext links to the rest of the pages in the site. Typically this may also have links to other sites or useful information relating to the business in question. i.e. a Hotel may have a link to a Taxi firm or Restaurant chain.

3) Style 2

The price quoted is for 8 pages of indexed and linked information with an electronic reply form(s) enabling the user to complete details on screen. The results or answers to your questions, portrayed on the form, are sent to a mailbox of your choice.

For example; The company may wish to link information to databases in order that the user can do on screen calculations. If Acme Ltd were Accountants, the site may include an on screen “tax calculator” or, if they were a Hotel chain, there may be a search and find facility for a Hotel in a specific location which fulfilled certain parameters.
